Scottish Public Services Ombudsman

The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) provides a free independent and impartial service to handle complaints about public services in Scotland.  They can look at complaints about:
  • Local authorities
  • Most Scottish Public Bodies
  • The NHS
  • The Scottish Government and its agencies and departments
  • Colleges and Universities
  • Scottish Prison Service
  • Housing associations
  • Most water and sewerage providers

They are the final stage for handling complaints about public services in Scotland. This includes complaints about the Care Inspectorate.

If you are unhappy with the Care Inspectorates' final response to your complaint you have the right to ask the SPSO to look into the matter.  The SPSO's website gives information on making a complaint and the types of complaints it looks at.
