We regulate and inspect care and support services (including criminal justice services). We also carry out social work and child protection inspections. Because we inspect individual services as well as the organisations that provide them and purchase them, we are able to bring consistent, in-depth scrutiny.

To allow more flexibility in the way that we plan and carry out inspections over the coming months, the Care Inspectorate will be contacting more services to remind them to complete or update their self-assessment forms.  If your service needs to do this, you will receive an email from us.  Please note that a request to submit your self-assessment does not indicate that we will definitely inspect your service, although we can inspect a service at any time, with or without notice, under section 53 of the Public Service Reform (Scotland) Act.

• provide assurance and protection for people who use services, their families and carers and the wider public
• play a key part in improving services for adults and children across Scotland
• act as a catalyst for change and innovation
• promote good practice.

People deserve the highest quality of care and their rights should be promoted and protected - we strive to make sure this happens. Our role is to drive up standards of care, social work and child protection services through scrutiny of local authorities and care service providers.
